Nando Milano Trattoria is set to open in Downtown Champaign at 202-204 N. Neil Street. It will be right next door to The Jane Addams Bookshop in the space that used to house Carrie’s Fabulous to Funky. This will be the second location for owner Dario Vullo, the first location being in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The opening is expected to happen before the end of the year. Co-Owner Amy Yetasook, who is also Mario Vullo’s fiance, will be serving her surgical residency here at Carle. Upon realizing the amount of travel they would have to do, her fiancé not only decided to move to Champaign-Urbana, but he also decided to open a restaurant in downtown. Lucky for us! The Vullo family have roots in Sicily that include several generations of restauranteurs. Mario Vullo moved from Sicily to Milan when he was young. Later in 2006 he moved to Los Angeles where he met his future finance, which eventually lead him to the Downtown Champaign restaurant scene. Dario’s brother, Alessio Vullo, will be executive Chef at the Champaign location. He studied cuisine in Bologna for 12 years. The Trattoria will be be cooking up cuisine from Northern Italy and they will make there own fresh pasta, bread and desserts. I personally cannot wait. Those are three of my most favorite things in the world! Here in Champaign the menu will not be quite as extensive as the Wicker Park location. You can expect to spend around $35-$40 for a meal. I absolutely adore Italian food and I am so happy about this exciting new place. I’ll keep you updated on the opening date!
